Well… it’s been a while since my last blog article, so an update is probably long overdue. Thankfully, this hiatus has been due to a steady flow of work from clients old and new which has kept me busy over the past year.
Since my last article, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a range of projects for some great clients. Continuing my work with New Edge in Kettering, I designed for them a new website for Crown Shoes in Northampton. This involved designing the site based on brand guidelines, then building the fully-responsive HTML/CSS templates, which were then supplied to New Edge for integration with their preferred content management system.
Further support and maintenance work for Distinctive Wash was followed by a project for a former colleague, which involved the branding, design and build of Deaf Hub – a Northampton-based organisation providing signing and interpreting services. Another design and front-end build project for New Edge, Dump Truck Parts features a striking design and colour scheme.
Photoshop-to-WordPress
One of the services I provide is a Photoshop-to-WordPress conversion – taking PSD files designed and supplied by a design agency, then taking care of the entire build and development process, taking the project through to launch. One such project was a website redesign for Hotbox Storage, as designed by Ginger Creative. This was a nice project to work on, due to the variation of layouts required.
The summer months were a particularly busy period for me, taking on several projects for a range of clients:
- Striking new website build for Pont St restaurant in London.
- Clean and simple website redesign for London Talent.
- Website redesign for Northampton-based cleaning company, Brightwise Cleaning.
- Fresh new web design for SAC Engineering Design in Northampton.
- Child-friendly website for a friend’s new childminding business – Little Dragons Northampton.
- Photoshop-to-WordPress build for Wetdog Creative, for their client Southwest Shooting Services.
- Website redesign to match new branding for retail shopfitting service, ISAS Group.
Following a busy summer, I was involved in another fully-responsive PSD-to-Photoshop build for Wetdog Creative – this time for their London-based client, The Putney Clinic. Then came along a fairly large website redesign project for another London-based client – this time from a much-valued client of mine, Nileeka of The Bollywood Co. Nileeka wanted a redesign for her dance company’s website which made better use of her fantastic collection of bright and colourful photography. I took the opportunity to do something more striking and unusual, creating a bold and interesting full-width homepage featuring eye-catching animated panels.
One year on…
November saw the anniversary of my decision to take the plunge and work for myself as a freelance web developer.
Being a small business myself, I am always happy to help other local companies. Neill at the Northampton Nutrition Centre got me involved with his new business venture, creating a logo and website design for his nutritional food and sports supplements shop in Northampton town centre.
Whilst on the subject of health and fitness, I was also approached by Kyle of You Fitness to redesign his website, promoting himself as a personal fitness trainer. The resulting design is a very clean and modern layout, complete with a range of custom-designed icons depicting his various service offerings.
A few final projects towards the end of the year included:
- A simple single-page website for MDG Fog in Moulton Park, Northampton.
- Another PSD-to-WordPress build for a much-valued client, Wetdog Creative – this time for portrait artist, Alex Talbot Rice.
- Development of front-end HTML templates for Magnese, client of New Edge in Kettering.
The year so far
Since the new year, I have been fortunate enough to work on several projects – some for clients of my own, others on behalf of other design agencies in and around Northamptonshire.
Several exciting projects are still ongoing from last year – news on these will be available once the websites have been launched. One project currently in development is a new and updated design for the Northamptonshire County Scouts website – this will include a more streamlined, lightweight design and will of course be fully mobile-responsive.
